Arzina Zaver

PhD (McGill), MA (UCL), MTeach, BEd, BA

Undergraduate Canadian University Admissions Specialist, International School Admissions Specialist, Graduate School Admissions Specialist

Arzina Zaver was born in Kenya and grew up in beautiful Vancouver. She completed both a B.A.  and B.Ed at Simon Fraser University. As part of the International Teacher Education Module at SFU, she spent a semester abroad in Trinidad and Tobago teaching English Literature and Humanities and taking classes at the University of the West Indies. After teaching with the Coquitlam School District, Arzina was accepted with full scholarship into a highly competitive double Masters Program (M.A./ MTeach) at the Institute of Education (University College of London) in London, UK.

As part of her Master’s program, Arzina taught in London, UK; Essen, Germany and Vancouver, BC. Between completing coursework and teaching, Arzina travelled extensively across Europe. Spending an additional three years teaching and immersed in curriculum development for a private organization, Arzina became interested in how teachers negotiate their personal and professional identities, especially when confronted with institutional policies. These intellectual questions around teacher identity led Arzina to Montreal where she began a PhD at McGill University. She was also fortunate to gain valuable research experience as a Research Assistant at McGill and worked as a Faculty Lecturer for the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University.

Throughout her career, Arzina has been passionate about community service. She is the graduate student representative for CATE (Canadian Association for Teacher Education), and has served as Secretary for both the Education Graduate Student Society at McGill and the Institute of Ismaili Studies Alumni Group. Arzina has also organized conferences across Canada for graduate students and has provided workshops on her additional areas of expertise- digital and legal literacy, social media and ethics- for teachers and students in Québec, Alberta and British Columbia.

Currently back (permanently!) in Vancouver, Arzina is excited to join Rasul Learning Group as a Consultant specializing in Canadian university applications. On her days off you can find her writing her thesis at coffee shops, enjoying the hiking trails, biking the seawall and partaking in Vancouver eats- especially sushi and buck-a-shuck oysters!
