Jeremy Nan

MSc (c), BSc

Jeremy was born in Hsingchu, Taiwan, where he spent his first 7 years growing up as a child. He then moved to Shanghai, China, where he started his western education at Shanghai American School (SAS). At SAS Jeremy spent 5 years completing the majority of his elementary and middle school education before moving to Coquitlam, BC. In Coquitlam, Jeremy completed his highschool education at Centennial Secondary school. Throughout his time in highschool Jeremy was a member of the highschool soccer team, vice president of the business club, and enrolled in AP courses. Upon graduation, Jeremy was awarded the Science Achievement Award by the BC Innovation Council and BC Science Teachers’ Association.

Jeremy attended the University of British Columbia for his undergraduate education where he majored in Microbiology and Immunology. While completing his undergraduate degree Jeremy was completed the co-op program where he was able to experience working in a biotech company as well as an academic research lab. He is currently finishing up his Master’s at UBC in the Experimental Medicine program. Jeremy focuses his research on protein misfolding and aggregation in ALS, working in the Cashman lab.

Within his time as a graduate student, Jeremy has gained teaching experience through his TAship, teaching students at the undergraduate level in a biochem laboratory setting. Jeremy also volunteers on his spare time at Vancouver General Hospital where he teaches a multitude of subjects such as math and english to mental health clients.

In his spare time Jeremy enjoys playing soccer, skateboarding, and volunteering.
