Paul Ahn

MSc (c), BSc (UBC) 

Paul was born in Incheon, South Korea where he spent majority of his childhood until he moved to Abbotsford, Canada in 2006 at the age of 13. He attended Yale Secondary School in Abbotsford where he excelled in both academics and athletics. He finished his high school as one of Yale’s top students, winning awards in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics, while being recruited to play varsity rugby at the University of British Columbia (UBC). To pursue his athletic and academic dreams, he attended UBC where he majored in Microbiology and Immunology while being a thunderbird on the rugby pitch. 

 After finishing with his undergraduate studies in 2016, he started his Master’s degree in Experimental Medicine program at Vancouver Prostate Centre under the supervision of Dr. Amina Zoubeidi. His research focuses on understanding the mechanism of resistance in prostate cancer, where he incorporates his immunology background in cancer biology. During his graduate studies, he continued to develop as an elite rugby player, helping British Columbia men’s provincial team win the Canadian Rugby Championship in 2017. 

Currently, Paul is finishing off his MSc degree while transitioning from a player to a coach in BC rugby community. Being an active individual, Paul can be found on a road bike around Vancouver or with his hiking shoes on various BC trails in his spare time.
