CERN Pays Off – The God Particle
Interesting news on on the science front. The Large Hadron Collider was built underground in Switzerland by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) from 1998 to 2008 in the hopes of discovering the most basic of sub-atomic particles. As you know atoms contain protons, neutrons and electrons, but protons and neutrons are themselves made of even smaller particles. Just recently this particle accelerator has smashed protons together with so much force that they have disintegrated and released the most basic particle of all, the Higg’s Boson, nicknamed the God Particle. It is this particle that is responsible for everything having mass! Although theoretical to this point it has now been almost proven. This is a huge step for particle physics.
